NEACAC College Access and Success Listserv

The NEACAC College Access and Success Listserv (CASL) provides a single platform to share information and ideas with other professionals working with students in the New England region on the college search and application process. This platform (a Google Group) is run by NEACAC’s Inclusive Policies and Practices sub-committee (of the IDEA committee).

We know some of these conversations can be difficult and/or uncomfortable, especially as we all continue to develop greater cultural awareness beyond our own experiences. Our hope is to help facilitate difficult conversations productively and to use this as a space where you can learn, make mistakes, and grow.

To join CASL, please fill out this google form and you will be added to the listserv within two business days. If you have any questions about this process, please reach out to Christina Doyle, NEACAC Executive Director.

Guiding principles

  • DO make only truthful statements.

  • DO use the CASL to engage in discussions related to the college admission process, equity in education, building inclusive school communities and processes, etc.

  • DO respect yourself and other professionals courageously engaging in the conversation.

  • DO ask questions and seek support on topics that will help you acknowledge the privilege(s) you have and to harness your position for positive change.

  • DO use good CASL etiquette (see below).

  • DO NOT quote any CASL message without prior approval from the person who posted the message.

  • DO NOT post anything in a CASL message that you would not want the world to see or that you would not want anyone to know came from you.

  • DO NOT use the CASL to post or transmit any material that violates or infringes in any way upon the rights of others (such as copyright infringement) that is unlawful, threatening, abusive, defamatory, invasive of privacy or publicity rights, vulgar, obscene, profane, abusive or otherwise objectionable that encourages conduct that would constitute a criminal offense, gives rise to civil liability or otherwise violate any law.

  • DO NOT post any confidential information or any information that would infringe upon the proprietary, privacy or personal rights of others.

  • DO NOT distribute, post, publish or communicate any material that contains promotional, commercial or advertising messages.

Etiquette

  • Signature Tag: Include your name on all messages. Acknowledging that you are more than your institutional affiliations, know that your organizational affiliation is optional.

  • Subject Line: State the specific topic of your comments in the subject line.

  • Respect for Others: Avoid personal attacks on others. The discussions in the CASL are meant to stimulate conversation, not to create contention. We know that tension and conflict are important for growth and hope that we approach these moments of tension and conflict in the group with grace, humility, and an openness to learn.

  • Requests for Information: The CASL is meant to be a virtual space for professional discourse on topics related to the college admission process. Requests for resources, specific programs that meet certain criteria, etc., are permitted, but please do not respond to the entire CASL with each suggestion. Instead, the IDEA committee prefers that the Subscriber who requested the information post a summary of the responses for everyone’s benefit.
