Public School Counselor Scholarship to the National Conference in Boston

NEACAC has received a NACAC grant to underwrite the fees and other costs of public school counselor attendance at the National Conference in Boston, Sept. 12-16, 2017.  NEACAC is also contributing to this fund so we can support one counselor from each state in our region. Help Your Students Win a Scholarship for College!


Boston-area 11th and 12th graders and community college students are eligible to participate in a video essay contest sponsored by the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC) and its Inclusion, Access, and Success Committee. This year, $20,000 in scholarships will be awarded, with $5,000 for the top-place submission. Deadline to submit is June 1. Learn more and apply now!

Pre-Conference Opportunities: Don’t miss out on the low cost and high value professional development opportunities available May 31 at Keene State College as part of the pre-conference offerings. We have topics for professionals on both sides of the desk and encourage you to recommend colleagues who you know will be a great fit. When that registrant lists your name, you’ll be entered into a drawing for a $50 Amazon Gift Card.

We are excited to announce that the College Counseling Web-shop: Getting Hands-On with Coalition, Common App, CSS Profile, and FAFSA has been awarded a NACAC Imagine Fund Grant. Counselors are able to apply for a scholarship to attend this pre-conference workshop online here and funds will be granted on a rolling basis. Applicants may also request funding to cover on campus Tuesday night housing.

Middle Management Workshop: NEACAC’s Professional Development Committee will host a workshop for middle managers working at colleges and universities. This program will provide an opportunity for individuals to acquire techniques, strategies, and advice that will assist them as they continue to progress in their careers. Attendees will likely be at the assistant, senior assistant, or associate director level and will have some leadership and supervisory responsibilities within their office. During the workshop, attendees will hear from individuals in senior management positions at a variety of institutions and will have the opportunity to engage in discussion with colleagues. Topics to be covered include team-building, reporting, communication techniques, and career advancement.  This year’s presenters will be Grant Gosselin from Wheaton College, Jim Fowler from Salve Regina University, and Amy Tiberio from Roger Williams University. Newcomers: Looking to get more involved at NEACAC? Want to impart wisdom on colleagues who are new to AMC? Apply to be a Newcomers Mentor!                 

We are looking for counseling professionals who have three or more years of experience and have attended at least one NEACAC conference to submit an application to be a Newcomers Mentor. In your role as a mentor, you would share your experiences and expertise to help guide Newcomers through their first NEACAC Annual Meeting & Conference. If you are interested, please complete the Mentor Application by April 21, 2017. 

Know someone in your office who would make a great Newcomers Mentor? Take a minute and nominate your peers from both the college and school counseling side by completing the form here.

Volunteers: During the AMC there are numerous volunteer opportunities and we want you!  If you are interested in volunteering, please e-mail this year's AMC Volunteer Coordinator, Bill Jack, at [email protected].  As the conference approaches, we will reach out to you with details on the specific volunteer opportunities so that you may sign up for the slot(s) that are of interest to you.
